Bass Coast Shire Council

Bass Coast is a visitor’s dream. Take your time exploring its diverse range of landscapes from peaceful and pristine beaches to hinterland villages.
Enjoy local produce at boutique cafes, restaurants, wineries and breweries. Be amazed by the wonderful wildlife and delightful attractions all year round.
If you don’t mind a bit of active exploration, trek along the cliffs of Kilcunda towards San Remo along the incredible George Bass Coastal Walk, or follow one of the the many other walking tracks strung along the coastline.
Cycle the famous Bunurong Coast Road from Inverloch to Cape Paterson (25km return), or take a less travelled route and discover the views from the back hills through Kernot and Grantville (40+km depending on route). For those looking for a gentle ride without competing with traffic, follow the Bass Coast Rail Trail from Wonthaggi all the way to Anderson (23km).
Most of these trails stumble upon, start or finish at local gems: cafes where you can find local produce, wineries, microbreweries and tonnes of cafes and restaurants, all perfect places to refuel in between all the exploring. If you’ve bought the family (or if you’re simply a kid at heart), you can’t miss out on one of Australia’s most adorable attractions, the Phillip Island Penguin Parade, or maybe doing some excavations of your own with local dinosaur diggers in Inverloch, the site where Australia’s first dinosaur bone was found. You can see dinosaur footprints at low tide too!
You are also bound to be thrilled by many of Phillip Island’s attractions including Churchill Island, the world famous Grand Prix Circuit or the Koala Conservation Centre to name a few!
When the weather forces you indoors, take some time discovering the many art galleries, museums and shops Bass Coast has to offer. Bass Coast truly has something for everyone.

The Gippsland Mile
|
Kay street will be taken over on Sunday October 7th by the second stage of the Tour of Gippsland Powered by Warragul Toyota. As part of the build up to the electrifying criterium race, locals will be encouraged to make full use of the closed roads and run the Gippsland Mile.
The Gippsland Mile is a fun new concept for everyone to get involved in and is your chance to be part of the Tour of Gippsland Powered by Warragul Toyota, and the best part is you don’t need a bike to participate. Runners will take off at 9:00am and race the same course that the elite cyclists will be racing laps off. They will start slightly behind the bike race start line to make the course a complete mile long (1.6km total), before racing down Kay street. With a completely closed road making it as safe as possible, the only challenge is how hard you push yourself. Cash prizes of $100 for Men, Women, Junior Male and Junior Female will be awarded, so get down to Kay street on Sunday October 7th in your running gear and be part of the action. While the Tour of Gippsland is traditionally an elite cycling event, the Gippsland Mile will bring a whole new group of active people to the event. Making it a sporting festival for everyone. |
